World's fattest man got married in Mexico

Mexican Manuel Uribe, the world's fattest man in the 2007 Guinness Book of Records, has married his friend's widow in a televised ceremony the US Discovery Channel dubbed "My Big Fat Mexican Wedding".

Despite shedding 230 kilograms (570 pounds) from 590 kilograms early on this year, Uribe, 43, had to be carried by a crane on his bed, where he has been confined for years, to the makeshift altar at a venue 30 minutes from his home on Sunday.The ceremony was televised by Discovery as part of a special, exclusive program titled after the 2002 US movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," with other reporters from Japan, Germany and Argentina in tow. No other cameras or cellphones were allowed inside.

Manuel Uribe, 43, who once weighed 560 kg and has not left his bed for six years, tied the knot with his long-term girlfriend, Claudia Solis, 38, at a civil ceremony sunday.

Uribe has been officially recognized the world's fattest man by the Guinness Book of World Records.

He was the subject of a documentary entitled 'The World's Heaviest Man' and said he had set himself the goal of getting his weight down to 120 kg.

Uribe met Solis when he visited a friend, who also weighed 250 kg, as he lay dying four years ago.

The wedding reception had a "low-calorie banquet" with meat, cream of mushroom and buttered vegetables.
